February 2, 2012 - Teknion Corporation announced today that its new Washington, D.C., showroom has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Commercial Interiors 2.0 Gold by the United States Green Building Council.

“We continue to look at all aspects of sustainable development within our organization,” said Tracy Backus, LEED AP ID + C and Teknion’s Director of Sustainable Programs. “This includes the design and manufacture of our products to support our customer’s LEED projects, through to our many educational programs that enable us to share our knowledge. We also support our clients in their quest to attain LEED certification for their buildings by having our own LEED projects, such as showrooms. Our mandate is to have all new showrooms LEED certified.”

Teknion’s 6,500-square-foot Washington showroom was created by Vanderbyl Design to maximize the potential of the space, light and materials used. All furniture displayed is GREENGUARD Certified for indoor air quality and in line with LEED credits for low-emitting materials. Products include Altos and Optos architectural wall systems, District and Leverage panel systems, the Marketplace worktable, Expansion Casegoods and Expansion Desking, Foundations Conferencing and Casegoods, W/R/S wall rail system, Modular Cabinets, Conflux LED Lighting, and several popular lines of Teknion seating.

Washington marks the fourth Teknion showroom in the U.S. to attain LEED certification from USGBC. The company’s Santa Monica and San Francisco showrooms received LEED Gold certification and the Boston space LEED Silver. Teknion’s Ottawa showroom attained LEED Canada for Commercial Interiors Silver certification from the Canada Green Building Council.
